Our History

The History: The Pennsylvania Early Childhood Educators Association, PECEA was founded on October 9, 1990, and reorganized with a new name and business status as The Pennsylvania Early Childhood Education Association, PECEA on March 2, 2002.

PECEA is an affiliate of the National Child Care Association, NCCA. All benefits, services, certificates, credentials and programs are available to all members in each state. National collaborations with government agencies by our Washington, DC lobbyiest and Consortium (large Corporate child care companies) review, choose and act on legislation issues that are surfacing. States share what is emerging in their own state and share information to help influence change so they are not left out. What happens in one state may repeat in another.

The original purpose of PECEA was to form an association that would address the needs of all providers in early childhood settings. There was no valid voice for private preschool owner directors, independant schools and quality corporate centers. There was a disconnect between the Department of Education Nonpublic Schools that served Preschools (ages 2.6 months to 3rd grade). PECEA created a place where directors, owner, administrators and family home providers could share and learn from each other.

The National Child Care Association is represented by one vote from each state on the Board of Directors. They meet four times a year in different parts of America. Friends from around the country share and grow and take back information and national programs to grow their association and service the centers and preschools they serve. Each state association is responsible to sending a portion of the dues from each program as their quarterly dues to national to run the national office. Programs are created from ideas generated at committees. Everyone makes the system work when states share and NCCA reacts in Washington, DC.

NCCA has a program for staff. CCP: Certified Childcare Professional Credential
NCCA has a program for directors: NAC National Administrators Credential (three credits),
NCCA allowed independence to: NECPA: National Early Childhood Program Accreditation.
NCCA makes professional programs available: It's The Law! CD Legal Training.

and much more!
